Full name: Lu Shan "Larry" Chien (That's the Western order of names, so his first name is Lu, and he is Mister Chien to some of his clients. Usually goes by Larry Chien)
Age: 46
Birthday: February 26 (Chinese zodiac = Dragon)
Experience: Beginner
Riding Interest: Pleasure riding for now
Favorite Breed: Whatever is nice and easy to handle
Appearance: Lu is of average height, but compactly built and well-muscled. His hair is black and always cut very short. His eyes are almost as black as his hair - deep pools of darkness that can stare down almost anyone. At Willow Brooke he dresses in practical clothes, but not like an outdoorsman. Jeans, a shirt, a sports coat are his usual attire and his shoes are always well-polished. When appearing in court he dresses very smartly and always adds a tie that perfectly matches his shirt. Lu's expression is serious most of the time, but he sometimes betrays a sense of humor in his mien - it just happens rarely.

History:
Lu grew up in San Francisco's China Town, where his parents ran a small restaurant. It wasn't much, but it paid the bills and allowed his parents to send their only son to law school when he proved to be a good and intelligent student. His parents always wanted their son to do better in life than they had, see their son grow into someone who made the most of himself, and Lu was happy to make his parents proud, learning as much as he could and studying hard.
While at law school he met his future wife, Mei Pai, and while they didn't hit it off immediately, they grew closer and closer over time, marrying shortly after they both finished university and Lu found work with a big law firm. But work consumed him, captured almost all his attention, even after their daughter was born, so the family grew apart.
Lu tried to make up for it by giving his wife and daughter everything they wanted - after all he earned enough money, and winning court cases was more important than spending his income for himself. That was how Sarah learned how to ride when she wanted a horse.
But in the end all that was not enough to keep his marriage intact. When everything fell apart, Lu did what he did best - he fought court battles and won custody over Sarah. Only that he could deal with her less and less each passing day, as she grew into a rebellious teenager he didn't know what to do with. But she had always loved horses and when he heard about Willow Brooke he decided to send her there, in the hopes that it would help her at least a little.
When Sarah returned from Montana his wildest hopes were exceeded. She seemed happy - and confident. Confident enough to tell her father in no uncertain terms that she wanted to be with her mother, not him.
That revelation almost gave Lu a heart attack, but he could not deny his little sweetheart something she really wanted, so he let go of her, his love for his daughter overruling his desire for control.
Since then he has visited his former wife and their daughter a few times, and every time they seemed happy. Happy enough that Lu started to feel guilty inside for keeping mother and daughter apart to begin with. He could not ever make up for it to the two most important girls in his life, that much he knew, but perhaps he could do something to pay back the people who had helped his daughter...
So one day Lu just showed up at the front steps of the office and said: "You helped my daughter, so I owe you. Give me a desk and I will pay you back."
