Kendall Sawyer McCarter had arrived at Willow Brooke Correctional Facility late last night and he already hated the place. There was a lot of dirt and it stank like animals. He didn't like it here and he still wasn't sure as to why his parents had chosen this correctional facility over different ones. Why not like... Military School or something? Why horses? He was supposed to go to class today but they had told him to get to know his horse that he was assigned to. He had no idea what he was doing and he wasn't sure he wanted to get to know his horse at all. He got up and put his clothes on and put his hat so that it was on sideways. He put his skull bracelet on and tied the laces to his Vans "skater looking" shoes that he never used to go skateboarding. He didn't know what he was supposed to wear to deal with horses; all he knew was that if "his" horse messed up his clothes, he was going to be pissed. KM looked around the cabin and sighed. Nobody was in here, they were all in class according to his watch. He pulled the little slip of paper, that excused him from classes, from under his pillow and put it in his pocket. Maybe he could get kicked out of this place if he was lazy enough. Then his parents wouldn't be able to send him here ever again. He smiled at that thought but sighed. This was a correctional facility. There was no way to get "kicked out", the only way to out was to follow the rules. Well, he could wait them out until he was eighteen; they couldn't keep him here when he was eighteen. There would be nothing they could do.
Kendall didn't want to leave the cabin but there was nothing he could really do here. He didn't have any of his electronics; his mother had confiscated them so that he couldn't have them here. There was nothing to do but go out and see the horse that he didn't want to meet or anything. The horse was apparently named Montana and he'd been told what "stall" he was in. Kendall knew nothing about horses and he doubted that he would get along with anything here. He opened the door, looking completely out of place here. Nobody was out because most of them were in class. He found his way to the stables and got lost a couple of the times along the way. It wasn't too bad a walk even though he didn't like it. He stared at the barn and did not want to walk in. He could smell the creatures called horses and he wrinkled his nose. That smell was certainly unpleasant. He hesitantly opened the door and freaked out when the horses started making high pitched noises. KM fell down backward on his butt and sighed unhappily. This was so not going to work for him. He was afraid of noises, much less actually getting on the things. He had been told his horse was unrideable because it was young and was currently in the stage of training. Woop de freaking doo. His horse wasn't even rideable or even trained... How the heck was he supposed to take care of that creature?
KM walked down the stalls jumping every time a horse reached out or touched him. He hesitated every time a horse made a noise and then he came to the stall that supposedly held the horse that he was supposed to take care of. There was a weird thing that he'd been told went on the horse's head so that you could lead him/her around without having to ride him/her. The horse that looked back at him was actually really pretty and Kendall immediately liked him. He was a tall horse and the horse looked back at him with an intelligence that only KM would recognize. This was the only horse that he'd ever like. He was afraid of the other ones but this horse... He was different. Montana was probably the most beautiful horse he'd ever seen. Kendall didn't open the stall door though. He reached his hand out and Montana reached his nose out and sniffed and then bit down on Kendall's hand. Kendall jumped and then pulled away his hand. He inspected it; it was fine. He glared at Montana. "You are like the rest. You're just a dumb horse and I don't want to take care of you." Kendall didn't feel like he deserved to be here. He didn't want to be here and he hadn't done much wrong. Sure, he'd stolen but he was sure he'd rather go to a Military School. Kendall would never fit in here.

Post by Étaín Epona Markey on Aug 16, 2010 18:22:23 GMT -5
Epona was just coming back from a trail ride, which was clear with how her ponytail was all windblown and the soft smile she had on her face, when she saw the male outside of the barn. She was still far enough away to not tell who it was or anything but she knew she would find out soon enough since she was heading to the barn. Midnight snorted and trotted down to the barn before coming to a stop even before her rider had made any move to stop the mare. As she dismounted she took the reins and lead her mare into the barn while humming softly since she was in a happy mood from the ride.
Hearing the words she looked up and saw who was in the barn which she went into Midnight's stall and said "No horse is dumb, they just need tamed and besides Montana isn't trained yet so you can't go blaming him." She took off the halter and closed the stall door while she set the halter and reins down on a hay bale that was by Mid's stall door. Her jeans seemed to cling to her legs in a way that made them seem a bit baggy but still workable with animals. Her button up shirt was unbutton a little but in a stylish way, which she fixed into a more workable way. Her boots made soft clicks as she walked over to the male and said "Heard that Montana got a student, so you must be him." She slipped a carrot out of her pocket and broke off a piece before she held her hand out flat to Montana so he could have the carrot piece in the center of her palm.
"I'm Epona the western riding instructor. Horses are just like anyone else they have to get use to you before they learn to trust you but the trust of a horse is an amazing thing." She said as she removed her hand after Montana had eaten the carrot. She walked back over to Mid and gave the rest of the carrot to her mare before she looked at the student and said "If you need help I can help... at least horse wise that is." She rubbed her mare's nose and smiled before she placed a kiss to the mare's forehead. It was clear that the bond between the horse and rider was one of a kind, and not just because Midnight wouldn't let anyone else ride her.
Midnight tossed her head and looked at the student before she snorted and nuzzled her rider's shoulder for more treats. Which the treats were given with a soft laugh from Epona as she ate the treats from Epona's hand before she snorted and stood still knowing that a good brushing and rubbing would come soon from her owner. As Epona spoiled her mare she looked at the student and studied him slightly, since she figured he probably wouldn't think of her as a staff member just from her being young but she was use to it and besides she had a few lessons already and was a pretty easy instructor to get along with. She blamed her age for that but it wasn't something that she could easily do without the antics of Midnight helping her.
