He felt a little spark of something, but then she pulled away. It was probably for the best considering they had an audience. He was still kind of sad that she pulled away. He thought maybe he did something wrong. He didn't mean to, but she wasn't used to intimacy. At least, not actual intimacy. Not whatever her father considered intimacy.
He obviously didn't mess up that much because she leaned into him and brushed a kiss over his bristly cheek .He grinned at that and returned the kiss with a tender brush of his lips over her forehead. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and shifted a little. He shook his head weakly as his hand pet her hair softly. "Don't be sorry. I understand, Lucy." He murmured to her, brushing another soft kiss over her cheek. "I don't want you to do anything unless you're ready to and want to." He said as he reached to her food and started to put her food in her to go box. He wasn't sure if she would actually eat any of it back at the cabins, but it wouldn't hurt for her to take it. If anything she'll feed a cabin mate or two.
Once her food was packed away, he stacked the boxes on top of each other and looked to Lucy with a sweet smile. "You ready to head back?" He asked gently as his hand gently played with her soft, dark hair. He had wondered for a while what it would be like to run his fingers through his hair. It was like heaven. It was soft and just inviting for his hand to run through it. Much better than what he imagined.

Lucy smiled at him and felt like she was going to cry. Not a bad sad cry, but a happy one. She had messed up with pulling away and he still treated her so well. She leaned into his chest a little as his arm went around her shoulder. She liked being with him. She wanted to make it official that they were a couple. She was really falling for him hard, she couldn’t help it. He treated her so nicely and with such respect. He hadn’t ever had respect much. Not from a man usually, usually men treated her like a sex object which is why she stayed away from them. Now, he was different. He was somebody entirely different, he treated her like a human being, he treated her like a princess. She could easily live all day being his princess. He treated her so well that he was surely having her fall for him. She was conquering her fears with him. He was so good to her.
He picked up her box and she smiled at him. ”Yes I am ready.” She replied, even though she didn’t want the date to be over. She wished she could stay with him and just talk. She was starting to open up to him more. Almost as if he had sped up the process it takes a flower to bloom, he was opening her up. She found out she enjoyed the side of her that he was opening it. It was a different side entirely and she enjoyed it a lot. She wished she could stay here with him, but they were done eating and there was really no need to stay any longer.
She looked at him with a smile, ”You are taking the leftovers home.” She wanted to make sure he knew, and if he objected she wouldn’t argue. She would just give it to one of her cabin mates to munch on in the morning. She looked at him with her large eyes. What was love? Was it the feeling that made it so the butterflies wouldn’t stop whenever she was around him? She wasn’t quite sure, to her, love was sex. But she didn’t want to have sex again. Sex also meant pain, she didn’t want to go through that. She really wasn’t all that sure what she was feeling toward him at the time being.

He liked this. Cozy with a woman. He knew he got all cozied up with other women, but it didn't feel like this. He liked how this felt much better. Don't get him wrong, the other girls were nice, but they didn't compare to this. He smiled at her gently and nodded when she said she was ready to go. He got up, leaving a few dollars on the table for Annie's tip. He picked up the to go boxes and chuckled at her. "Ohhh no, no, no. You're taking your leftovers back to your cabin." He said insistently as he handed her the box they spoke of then turned to head to the cash register. Hegave the lady at the machine the check.
She rang up the bill and Mark paid her. They exchanged a couple of pleasantries and money before Mark turned to Lucy and took her free hand with a gentle smile. He led the way out of the dinner and to the horses. He unhitched Storm and secured the to go boxes in the saddle bags. It took a little finessing to make sure the food wouldn't spill all over the boxes. Once Mark was sure it was secured, he mounted Storm, and looked to Lucy, waiting for her with a grin on his lips.

Lucy rolled her eyes at him once again as he said that she was the one to take home the leftovers. She wouldn’t argue with him, she just wasn’t going to tell him she wouldn’t be the one eating them. She didn’t get why she was taking them home though, he had bought it. She didn’t object at all as he paid, even though she figured she kind of should have. She hadn’t planned on coming into town and she never brought her wallet to work because she didn’t honestly trust the students. She looked at him adoringly as he took her hand and walked her toward the horses. She really had nothing to say to him anymore, she was so lost in him. She was just stuck in an adoring session. She couldn’t help but think how good today had gone. She was happy it was ending on a good note.
She watched as he secured the food and waited to make sure that he wouldn’t need any help. As he mounted his horse she did the same with hers. She looked at him with a smile as she grabbed the reigns. ”I really, really enjoyed that,” she admitted to him. She felt no need to hide it from him; she really liked him and felt like she could be open with him. She watched him carefully. She wished they had brought a car, but the ride was enjoyable as well. She just liked being closer to him, or maybe they should have just brought one horse. That way she could have sat up close next to him.
”I really enjoyed the kiss,” she said with a shy smile as her cheeks gained a little color. She did really enjoy kissing him. It made her feel wonderful inside and she hoped she would be able to do it again soon. She wanted to kiss him, not a lot, not like a make-out session she had witnessed with students and friends during highschool. She just wanted a sweet kiss from him every once and a while. Suddenly she wished he had kissed her in the office so she would have experienced it even once more.

He smiled and nodded his head. "I enjoyed it as well. Next time I think we should take my truck though." He said gently as he urged Storm out onto the road, careful of any ongoing traffic they might have. And when he suggested they take his truck next time, he was suggesting so they could be a little closer together. As a matter of fact, she could lean all over him if she wanted. He studied her thoughtfully, smiling as the last light of the sunset washed over her face.
He grinned and chuckled softly when she told him that she enjoyed the kiss. "You're welcome to many more whenever you wish, Lucy, because I enjoyed it too. Thoroughly." A teasing grin lifted one corner of his lips. That was a very true offer to. He would happily grace those soft supple lips of hers with another kiss whenever she wished. He certainly would not have any objections. He almost sort of wished that he had kissed her in his office instead of pulling away. He wouldn't let it get too far, but he would have given her a good sound kiss he imagined. And then they wouldn't have to worry about any gossip that will no doubt start over the night now.
That was the one downfall to this all. There was no doubt that the others in the dinner saw him and Lucy lock lips. Oh yes... he knew that particular bit of juicy gossip would be all over the place in a day or two. He didn't say anything though. He didn't want Lucy feeling bad about it.

Lucy nodded her head as she followed him into the road. ”I agree to taking your truck.” She truthfully agreed that they should take his truck. She had enjoyed leaning into him in the diner, and in his truck hopefully she could do that. She wanted to be closer to him. She was happy that he had felt the same way as her though. She knew she would probably have a hard time getting to sleep tonight, she had so much to think about him. He was playing with her head, making her doubt everything she had thought to be true for so long. She knew he wasn’t doing it on purpose, but he was playing such games with her head. All she wanted to do was rest in his arms, a feeling she hadn’t felt ever before. Sure the horse ride was part of the fun, but being with him beat that for sure. Just the kiss beat the horse ride. They could take trail rides, but when they went into town she wanted to be close to him.
She smiled at his comment at the kiss. She was glad she hadn’t done anything to completely mess it up. She was glad he was still willing to kiss her. Because kissing him was like breathing. She just felt as if she needed to kiss him. She didn’t know what all these feelings coming over her were all of a sudden. She wanted to know what she was feeling but she was really unsure. She just smiled at him. ”I haven’t been this happy since…” she paused as she tried to think when she had been this happy before. But honestly, she hadn’t ever been this happy before. She had lived her life in fear. He had made her the happiest she had been in her life, by just treating her right and being the sweetest person in the world to her. ever. That’s how she completed her sentence.
She smiled at him. She wanted to suggest just tying one of the horses to the other so that they could ride together, but she thought that may be awkward for Mark and she didn’t know. She really wanted to be closer to him, and she wasn’t sure why. She wanted to be closer, but she wanted to take it easy. She decided to speak up what had been on her mind for a while. ”I’m not experienced with this whole dating thing… like at all… so I was wondering…” she looked at him trying to decide whether it was a smart choice to finish or not. She could just make a fool out of herself, but she decided she wanted to finish. am I your girlfriend now?” She didn’t want to be a retard acting like his retard to figure out it had just been a onetime date type of thing.

Blue eyes studied her thoughtfully when she didn't finish her sentence. He didn't say anything though. She never had fun in her life. That was no childhood to lead. Her father took everything from her. Kids were supposed to have happy, care-free lives and she never got that. He urged Storm closer to Dotty and reached out to her, taking her hand gently. He gave it a gentle squeeze as if to say it was okay. "You go out with me again, you'll have plenty of fun." He gave a soft grin and brought her hand up to his lips and pressed a kiss over her knuckles playfully.
He smiled at her when she asked if she was his girlfriend. Well.. he sort of figured that was up to her really. He didn't want to automatically assume that she was his girlfriend. "That's up to you, Lucy. " He said softly, studying her thoughtfully. "Would you like to be my girlfriend?" He asked curiously, a big playful grin growing across his lips. He knew she wasn't used to the whole dating thing. That's why he was being patient with her. He didn't want to scare her off.

She smiled at him, she wanted to go out with him again. She knew that he would let her have fun, and he made her happy. She enjoyed her time with him because he was simply amazing. He treated her like a princess and he always took care of her. Sure this was a first date, but they had been friends for a few years. She had an easy time opening up to him, and he had approached her and earned her trust. A girl that thought it would be impossible for her to ever trust a male, and hard for her to trust a female, trusted the male riding next to her. She felt welcomed around him. She felt wanted by him, and that was a feeling she pushed away for the longest time. She had always felt not wanted, but he seemed to actually want her. She didn’t know how to react to that feeling.
He asked her the simple question and she didn’t know how to reply. She just looked at him with a smile. Was one date good? Should she wait for another date? Did dating mean everybody had to know, she didn’t really want everybody to know. It would be too much for him to handle. She felt like if she wasn’t his girlfriend she would be a whore though. She had kissed him in the diner, and she wasn’t even his girlfriend. Did that make her a whore? She wasn’t really sure what to think or say. She bit down on the corner of her lip hard, as if hoping it would clear her thoughts. She looked over at him, feeling like a fool for what she was about to say. ”I don’t really know… I don’t know what being a girlfriend means, I don’t know what being a girlfriend is.”
She defiantly was making a fool of herself tonight. She looked over at him sheepishly. What should she say when she didn’t know what to say? Of course she wanted to be his girlfriend, but they were such good friends. She didn’t want to lose a friend if their relationship didn’t work out. She had no clue what to think or say, being his girlfriend meant they went on more dates, she wanted to. But, she didn’t know what any of it meant.

He looked to her. He leaned over in the saddle and brushed a soft kiss over her cheek before giving her hair a playful little tug. "Just be yourself, Lucy. " That's all that mattered to him really. That she would be herself. She wanted to get to know the woman behind all the walls she had built up. He wanted to get to know her. The real Lucy Stevens. Not the scared little girl everyone else saw. He studied her for a long time, with a happy grin as they rode in silence. *** (a few hours later) Mark eased into his bed tiredly and stared at the ceiling, smiling at the glow in the dark stars he had pinned up on the ceiling many a years ago. He closed his eyes, a big smile plastered on his face as thoughts of Lucy Stevens filled his mind. He was very glad that he grew the balls to ask her out. It hadn't bee easy, but he did it. He sighed and closed his eyes before he turned over onto his side. He smiled faintly when he felt Dippy jump up into the bed. He shifted so that the dog could get comfortable before he dozed off to sleep. Nice long sleep. With dreams of Lucy.
