Full name: Alaya Mae Johston
Age: Seventeen
Birthday: August third
Original or Canon?: Original
Face Claim: Emily Browning
Why You are here: Alaya was sent here because of her behavior towards her family. After her father's death it became a lot for her to handle. Alaya attempted to commit suicide once and her mother is afraid that she may try it again. The other reason why she was ultimately sent here was because her anger has gotten out of hand. She has become to hard for her mother to handle. Outbursts of anger have caused her to smash things, throw things, and even hit her mother.
Riding Experience: Expert, she has been raised around horses and has been riding since she can remember.
Riding Interest: Cross Country
Favorite Breed: Oldenburg
Appearance: Alaya is rather short, standing only at five feet six inches and weighing just one hundred fifteen pounds. She wears her hair long, hating short hair. Her hair is not only long but it is wavy and a mix between very dark brown and black. In some lighting it looks brown but in others one could swear it was black. Naturally her hair holds a slight wave and it isn't often that she messes with her hair. She normally wears it down but sometimes it'll be held up in a pony tail. Her eyes are the color of amber, a color most would relate to liquid gold. She isn't a fan of make-up, only wearing eyeliner and mascara, sometimes blush and eyeshadow if she's feeling wild. She has no tattoo's but she has her ears, belly-button, and her tongue pierced. She has a series of scars that litter her right arm on the inside from a suicide attempt. They are deep and very nasty, something that one can look over. They are almost a scary sight to look at and often make her and the other person uncomfortable to talk about or to even look at.

Personality Traits:
Depressed: Alaya suffers from severe depression a lot of the time. She doesn't like to talk to other people about this, or even be around people in general when a wave of her depression hits. It takes someone special for her to open up to when she's in one of these moods.
Angry: Although Alaya may seem like a sweet innocent little girl, she is quite the opposite when you get her mad. She is a very angry person deep down inside. She's angry with herself, with her mother, and with her father. These are things that torture her from the deepest depths of her emotions which makes her very unpleasant to be around when she is angry.
Caring: Alaya is undeniably caring. If you give her a sob story she'll suck it up. If you need reassuring or a shoulder to lean on, she's your girl. Even when she is in the worst part of her depression or her anger, you can touch this side of her. Naturally she is a caring person and no matter how much wrong has been done to her, she's still a very caring creature.
Trustworthy: Once you have gained her trust you won't loose it unless you cross her. She is very good at keeping secrets, even the worst imaginable secrets that should be reported. If you tell her not to tell, she's not going to. She has been crossed to many times in her past to ever think about crossing someone else and betraying their trust.
Sarcastic: When you get past her well built walls she's a great person to be around. She's funny and full of life, ninety percent of this time is sarcasm, she loves to be sarcastic. Her sarcasm though is sometimes used in the worst moments as a strategy of defense and has been known to get her into trouble.
Neutral: Some days Alaya isn't happy but she isn't depressed. These are the days where she's in her neutral state. In this state she wants to talk to nobody, she wants to be by herself. It is in this state that the best of her sketches come out and the time where her photography takes off.
Imaginative: She loves to imagine things and this gives her the artistic touch that she uses to create her drawings and to come up with the most beautiful but odd photographs of nature and animals.
Reserved: When you first meet her she is very reserved and it is hard to get information out of her. She is very careful not to let facts about her past out, just because she doesn't like talking about it because it's painful. It takes a lot to get past her reserved state of mind unless your someone who knows how to pull it out of her.
Laid-back: In general she is a laid back person, she's not someone who goes bouncing off the walls although if your like that, she's often known to copy that person. If that person is acting crazy, she's going to act crazy. She likes to take life the easy way and enjoys the small simple things in life that makes it worthwhile.
Charismatic: Once you really break down her walls she is very charismatic. Sometimes it takes her a while to tune into that part of her, but it's there. She's fun to be around and very lively if you can pull it out of her.

History:
Alaya was born in Maine on August third to the loving Johston family. They lived in a podunk little town that most people from out of state didn't even know about. The only thing they knew was the name of their stable. The Johston family ran Hill Crest Stables, a very prominent stable in Maine. They specialized in English riding and training. Alaya was no different from her older brother, she grew up living breathing and sleeping equine. She knew nothing but the horse trade. She grew up very close to her family and was positively a daddy's girl. She and her brother were very close as well, most of the time she knew his secrets and he knew hers. School was something that she enjoyed but she would rather be at home than stuck in a school all day. She was very well known in school, one of the kids that one would call popular. She had many friends and many guys that wanted her. She was a very lively girl throughout middle and high school, always at the top of her class and always charismatic.
Towards the end of her sophomore year this changed. She became very depressed, drawn back, and solitary. Nobody could figure it out. Her older brother, Keagan, whom she was very close with was a senior at the time. He was the quarterback with very good chances of making it to college on a scholarship, also lost his game. He seemed distraught and distracted. This was the only time that Alaya ever let her grades slip and nearly failed the year. It was problems at home that caused this change in their family. Hill Crest Stables still ran and was still very well known, but on the inside they were in turmoil. A few weeks after her fathers forty-sixth birthday he was diagnosed with cancer. It was lung cancer and it was very aggressive. He was given six months to live and it crushed the family. Keagan was all that Alaya had, she withdrew herself from her father and her mother and didn't talk to anyone but her brother.
Her father died only three months after he was diagnosed with cancer. Alaya was the only one that was not present at his bedside when he passed and the only family member not at the funeral. She indulged herself in her horses and worked harder than she had every worked before. She had a hard time sleeping and was often plagued with nightmares of her fathers death. A few weeks after her fathers death Alaya got very depressed. She wrote her suicide note and tried to slit her wrists. Her brother found her unconscious in the bathroom. The ambulance made it in time, but barely. Alaya hacked her wrists with a kitchen knife and nearly die. After therapy and counseling she returned home but not that it helped much. Eventually her mother sold Hill Crest Stables and Alaya and Keagan moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
In Cheyenne Alaya dropped her equine activities. In the city there wasn't many opportunities to ride and try to achieve her dreams so she gave up on them. She began school with a new outlook on life, forget the past. She started school an outcast, she minded her own business and didn't really mingle. By the end of her junior year she had not made much improvement on her status. She still kept to herself and tried not to make to many friends but there were a select few that she had befriended closely. She made herself forget her past but she couldn't escape the nightmares that she had or the longing to be in the saddle. After she turned seventeen her mother announced that she had a new boyfriend. It was at this time that Alaya's behavior really worsened. At home she had always been polite but quiet. She kept out of things, making sure she wasn't close to her mother anymore.
After her mother's new boyfriend came to stay, her behavior became erratic. One little thing would set her off and her anger got to the point of yelling and throwing things. She was known to leave the house and not come back or one time she even hit her mother. On those nights that she stayed out she drank. She found her friends and they found a party. She would come home stoned or drunk, she didn't care. Eventually it became to much for her mother and her mother consulted Willow Brooke Correctional Facility, hoping that horses and isolation would straighten out her daughter.

"Barrels are friends not foes" Roxy spoke quietly to the mare beneath her. Sheeza Tahini Dream, a.k.a. Tahini, wasn't cooperating with Roxy, who was being just as stubborn as the mare. Twiggy, Roxy's dog was sprawled out at the edge of the ring attacking his stuffed animal toy. A leash held him firmly to the ring, although Roxy had no doubt he would stay.
Tahini, an extremely loud colored appaloosa, was an eye catcher in the ring, especially when Roxy competed in halter, but barrels were an optional feature to her. Roxy had been trying for a long time to get her to "become one with the barrels" but it wasn't happening. She had competed in barrels with her before and won once but the mare was indecisive when it came to running them. Directing the mare back to the beginning, facing the pattern, she pushed the mare into a flat run.
The first corner came out clean, much to Roxy's relief. Then she made the mistake of relaxing, feeling like she was actually going to run the pattern. Tahini ran the second barrel but not tight, not clean. Coming up on the third she outright refused. A full slide threw plumes of dust up into the air around her face, threatening to choke her. Twiggy rose up in a roar of barking as the mare shook her head and stomped a hoof. "I should trade you in" Roxy threatened halfheartedly.
Roxy hummed under her breath to keep herself patient as she walked Tahini through the pattern with no problems. She went up to the first barrel and turned it without a problem, not even making recognition. It frustrated Roxy, but that was the fun of it. Twiggy had quieted down and was back to gnawing on his toy again, much to Roxy's relief. The last thing she wanted was someone coming over to watch her.
