Full name: Jared Luther Martins
Age: 45
Birthday: December 4th
Experience: Expert
Riding Interest: Western Riding, Show Jumping, Team Chasing
Favorite Breed: All types
Appearance: Standing at six feet, Jared stands well over the majority of students enrolled in the school. He carries himself straight with rigid posture from years of riding. The stance he makes can come off arrogant when he’s simple proud and been on a saddle for far too many years. The hair on his head is cut slightly longer in the front then the back, which is barely more than a buzz cut. It’s graying heavily loosing the dark brown it use to be from stress of work and age. His baby blue eyes dare someone to lie to him and think they’re going to get away with it. There are multiple scars along his arms and chest from falling from horses, burns from those falls, and from protecting students from temperamental horses. His hands are hardened in calluses from hard manual labor around Willow Brooke. The wardrobe of Jared consist of jeans, shirts, and flannel shirts all in a variety of colors with a pair of very worn out espresso cowboy boots. On the rare days that an inspector comes to check on the progress of the students and the program, Jared can be found in a very causal suit in either tan or grey.

Personality Traits:
Commanding- As the head of Willow Brookes, Jared knows the type of students that are there and knows why each one is there. For that reason, he expects the staff to listen to him and follow any special orders handed out that may be different from what they normally have to do. He isn’t afraid to take charge and hold the attention of a large mass of people.
Calm- It takes a lot of patience to run the camp without having a heart attack. Jared has to be very serine when listening to students complain about whatever or explain to him why they broke out into a fight. In an emergency situation, someone has to keep a level head and he’s just that kind of guy.
Loyal- Jared is willing to anything for someone he cares about. He’ll stick his neck out for any student he believes can make it through their past mistakes.
Secretive about his private life (reserved)- When it comes to dating and stuff that happens outside of the camp, Jared’s lips are sealed. He believes he has two lives, the one at home and the one at Willow. The only exception is his son working at the camp/school who gets to see that father side.
Demanding- He expects a lot from his staff in both knowing how to handle a horse and the students. He doesn’t like the word ‘no’ when it proteins to doing the job the person was hired to do.
Stubborn- This comes with the nature of the job without it Jared wouldn’t have held on to the camp for as long as he has. If he gets on a stance in some argument there’s no moving him from it and there is no other way for it to end expect his way.
Helpful- Being part of a camp for children and teenagers with mental and physical problems that landed them at a dead in road caused Jared to want to help them out and give them a push to keep them going on.
Revengeful- The darkest side to Jared’s personality is that he will take revenge on anyone that attempts to take Willow Brooke from him. He will find dirt on any judge or politician that claims that Willow isn’t doing anything and afterwards show the proof that the camp has made a difference.
Natural Gift with Horses- There hasn’t been a time in his life that Jared hasn’t loved horses, he understands them better than any human for that understanding he respects them for their strength and courage. For some reason, horses seem to see through Jared and trust him no matter how temperamental they supposedly are to people.
Thoughtful- The main concern of the camp/school is the students and getting them in touch with their inner self’s and moving past their mistakes or any injuries done to them. Jared is always looking for a way to get through to the students before they graduate and can legally leave the camp.

History : Growing up in Brooke Haven gave Jared an early start in being strong for his family and loving horses. It was there that he meet his future wife, Willow in elementary school, but wouldn’t do anything about dating her until later on. His father worked the land by himself with one horse to pull the plow. It was a very strong willed horse that had been given a second chance by Jared’s father after being nearly beaten to death by a local drunk. Jared was put in charge of nursing the horse back to health after it wouldn’t allow his father near it, only Jared. The combination of late nights and a lot of milk and water later, the horse grew strong and lived on. Jared stayed on that farm until he was 18 and his parents realized that he needed to get out and explore the world some. With some money saved up, they sent their only son off to see the world beyond the small town.
At 19 years old, Jared returned home after going to Europe, the USA capital, and parts of Africa. Just in time for his father to retire with his mother down to Florida and leave the small farm to Jared to look after and do as he wished with. Having no idea what to do with a farm, he began to look into do what his father had started with that one horse, which was still around. Finding the ones no one wanted and rehabilitating them. It was hard work as first even for someone with a gift of horses like Jared had. The farm held four horses to start with and as they were trained and comforted, he made sure that each one was well known in the horse community by winning competitions. By 21 years old, those four horses had each been sold to rich people that would care for and look after them. It was at this point in his life that Willow finally reentered Jared’s life by assisting him with the book keeping of the barns for the next batch of horses that came in.
That same year, they married and soon had a son, Markus. They continued on with taking horses in and caring for them the best they could. By then the farm had a couple others working to help with the amount of horses that had been taken in. For the next seven years that’s how the Martins family life went. Markus grew up on a farm that specifically handled abused horses to help them become accustomed to human inaction once more. That life came to an end when Jared was 28 years old.
On the way back from visiting her parents, which had moved from Brooke Haven to California, the plane Willow had been in crashed along the way to its first layover in Texas. Jared went into a deep depression, blocking everyone out from his world and closing himself off. He ignored his son and the horses for a whole year, letting the stable hands take over the horse caring. When Jared finally snapped out of his daze he no longer smiled and joked around on the farm. His passion for life was nearly dead as he tried to work with the horses but many could sense how depressed Jared was.
That passion for life was sparked once more when Jared was forced to confront the trouble his son, then 13 years old, had managed to get into in those seven years and how much his wife would have kicked his butt for letting that happen on his watch. The only thing that held his son back from getting arrested for anything dangerous were the horses and the peace he found with them. Seeing an opportunity, Jared set to work getting the proper permits and licenses to create a facility that would help people that had been in situations like Markus cope with it by teaching them how much a horse could go through and still be strong with a little love that it had been deprived of. It was to be like a therapy camp but with classes so the teenagers could stay there for as long as it took to help them straighten out their lives.
The place was called Willow Brooke after Jared’s late wife. He took in any horse that was labeled difficult along with children labeled the same way. Willow Brooke would become known as a second chance camp, or as the students called it Last Chance Brooke. The supplies are purchased from a good friend of Jared’s in the local town, Barbara Fraisure. Since it’s opening, the camp has been around for 17 years, been expanded on twice, and Jared’s son even works on it now. It took nearly all that time for him and the veterinarian, Dr. Bowen, to start dating do to Jared still clinging to his wife’s memory but the relationship is kept very private and hush hush. He isn’t even sure his own son knows about it.
