‘What type are you riding Twilight in? It is nice meeting you again as well.’
Bella’s heart was pounding as she looked up at Ryan. He had followed her! She smiled at him warmly. “It’s nice to meet you again, too. We’ve been training for eventing ever since she was ready, but we really need to work on our dressage.” She made a face as she said this. Sure, Twilight was an amazing mover and Bella didn’t have to do much to get her round, Twilight just naturally carried herself that way, but Bella always found jumping much more invigorating and exciting. She always found herself unfocused whenever they practiced Dressage. This made her remember that her aunt and uncle had told her they would be coming to get their trailer and truck and bring her car over at 3. Bella jumped up and glanced at her silver watch, a present from her parents. She groaned. It was a quarter past 3 and her aunt and uncle were never late. She threw an apologetic glance at Ryan. “I was supposed to meet my aunt and uncle at 3 to exchange the trailer and truck for my car. They’re probably outside waiting! Give me 5 minutes,” she called as she gave him another apologetic look and dashed out of Twilight’s stall, shutting the door hurriedly behind her. Just great, she muttered to herself as she hurried to the parking lot. The time when they were about to have a conversation, she just had to have something that would lead her away from Ryan. She made it to the parking lot in what she considered to be record time, considering she didn’t like to run, and her jaw dropped. They had gone too far! In the spot where the red chevy and trailer had been, was a shiny silver Lexus. Bella moaned, knowing this was the work of her parents. They were never happy about her not showing off their wealth; they said she was too humble. A note was on the windshield of the car.
Bella dear,
Sorry we couldn’t stay to see you. We are in a hurry because Diego is being checked by the vet today and we need to get back home fast. We’re sure you’re having a good time and meeting new people so that’s probably why you’re not here. Your parents just couldn’t stand that old car of yours so they replaced it, as you can see. Please thank them for it, dear. They mean well and at least it’s not a convertible. They wanted to get you one, but we know how much you despise them! The keys are in the front seat. We’ll be sending Diablo over around 5 today. If you’re not here we’ll just have Mark take him to his stall. We know you’ll love him! Oh and we took the liberty of taking all your tack to the tack room so don’t worry about anything, it’s all taken care of. Just go and meet new people and kick butt! We know you and Twilight can. We love you, dear.
Love,
Aunt Sara and Uncle Tim
Bella sighed and leaned against the side of the car. Her parents knew no limits. She stood for a minute rubbing her temples before she opened the car door and grabbed the keys. Well at least they had taken care of her tack for her, which earned her more time with Ryan. Stuffing the keys in her pocket, she hurried back into the stable and down to Twilight’s stall. “I’m so sorry about that!” she exclaimed, shaking her head. A strand of wavy, light brown hair came loose from her ponytail and fell onto her face. She distractedly tucked it behind her ear. Twilight nickered to her from where she stood in her stall, daintily plucking strands of hay to chew on. It was only then that Bella realized what seemed so wrong about her mare flirting with Arcade. Twilight never liked showy stallions. Well, Bella thought, Nothing seems to be going like it usually does at this stable. Sighing and leaning against the door, a white envelope taped on Twilight’s stall door caught her attention. Apparently in her struggle to get the mare in her stall, she had looked over it. Smiling at Ryan, she grabbed the envelope, which was addressed to Ms. Isabella Stratford, and opened it. She gasped slightly. She had forgotten all about how she had applied to become a groom here. Apparently, they had accepted her. Blushing slightly, she looked up at Ryan. “It completely slipped my mind that I applied to become a groom,” she said. “It looks like Lullaby is one of my charges.”Did the fact that she was a groom make him think less of her? She wasn’t sure. And she shouldn’t care anyway. He should like her for who she was, not what she did. Bella shook her head slightly. Here she was thinking about all this stuff and she didn’t even know if he liked her! Being a girl could be so complicated sometimes. Well at least for now he was her friend. That was good enough, wasn’t it?
“Well,” she said awkwardly. She didn’t want this to end, they had just started having a conversation! But it seemed like he really missed his sister; She could relate, she hadn’t seen Rosalie in forever. “I know you probably want to see your sister and I don’t want to hold you up and I better get on with my grooming assignments,” she rambled. She hoped this wouldn’t be the last time they talked. They would see each other around the stable, wouldn’t they? She looked over at Lullaby, she seemed so loving, so motherly. Bella glanced up at Ryan with a half-smile. “Any quirks I need to know about?” she asked, half-jokingly, half-serious, nodding towards the Chestnut mare.
