Jamie stroked the nose of the coloured stallion. His black head was pushed into Jamie's hand and his ears were leaning back, completely at ease. Jamie had always liked Shadow, very calming horse to be around. He'd just sit with his head resting on you forever. He didn't not like any of the horses here. Calliope had taken a dislike to him, for some reason, but he didn't mind. She was a very good looking mare. As was Queenie, and Goldie for that matter. Shadow flicked an ear at an irritating fly which was buzzing around his head. Jamie scratched the stallion between the ears and his head dropped, ears relaxing and resting back. His eyes were only half open, a very calm horse on all accounts. Phantom snorted from a nearby stable, shaking his bicoloured head. Jamie looked up, dropping his hand from Shadow and making his way over to the black and white stallion. His big blue eyes watched him from the side.

What to do...what to do. Jamie shoved his hands into his pockets, looking out across the barn aisle towards the door. It was still raining. He'd ducked into the barn when the clouds had opened some ten minutes ago. He only had one other thing to do, but it meant going all the way across the yard. If the rain didn't stop soon he'd have to just make a run for it. It was good he didn't mind running in the rain, he had grown up mostly in Britain, so it made it all the easier. He crossed to the door, looking out into the rain. Sky put his black head over the door for a moment before going back to his much more interesting haynet. The rain was not going to stop. Jamie sighed, pulled up the collar of his jacket and hunched his shoulders before making a run for it. Yes, it was soaking. He sprinted across the yard, trying to keep his head down slightly, but it did make the rain run down his neck. Yuck. He made it to the feedroom, his hair dripping and his jacket had turned a darker shade. He shook out his hair, splattering the walls with water. He'd only needed to make sure one of the paper's was signed, which it was. Feeding the horses could be something of a problem if the students got lazy. Not many did, but you had to check.

Towel, he needed a towel. He darted out of the feedroom, locking the door behind him, he was already getting wetter. The tack room door had been jammed with what looked like a splinter from one of the fence posts. Great, the door would have to come off before someone could get back in. Students. Oh good. The rain was getting harder. This wasn't fair, it rained in Ireland and it wasn't supposed to rain here...too much. He hunched his shoulders again, making a run for it across to the Office building. He ducked inside, heading towards Mr. Martins office. He was getting cold now from the water running down his back. He knocked on the office door and pushed it open, sticking his head around the door. "Got a towel, someone's jammed the tack room." He asked with a grin, running a hand through his sodden hair, slicking it back to his head.

Jared looked up from the supplies orders he was putting in. He frowned and then turned and reached into his locker behind him and tossed him a towel for him. "I'm thinking about putting video cameras up if the kids keep up the pranks." He muttered as he looked back down at the papers. "Can it be fixed from the outside? Or am I going to have to rip out the door?" He asked gently. He hatted doing paper work. It always made him moody, but he knew he had to do it in order to keep the farm running efficiently.
Jared had found Jamie at a time where the kid needed a good friend. He actually considered Jamie as a second son really. He enjoyed having the kid around. He was a pretty big help, not to mention that he was helpful for Carole when she needed the help as well. He enjoyed having him around in general. He usually had pretty good sunny attitude. The horses did that to a lot of the people here though. They always made Jared smile no matter what. Sure they made him angry every once in a while, but when they know you're mad at them they always try to butter you up.

Jamie caught the towel tossed towards him and proceeded to rub it over his damp hair. It wouldn't completely dry it, but it would definately stop it dripping. He didn't bother trying to dry his jeans, just draped the towel around his shoulders. At least the heating was on in here. "Well, you'd know who it was, but I doubt they'd stop." Jamie replied with a shrug. It was true, students would just keep doing it, no matter what. The general black hooded figure doing anything could be quite hard to depict on camera, but it was worth a try. You could always just keep them all out in the rain if one of them did something. It might be considered cruel, blaming everyone for what one person had done, but it definately worked well.
Jamie pondered Jared's question for a moment. "I really don't think it's gunna come out." He mused to himself for a moment, but speaking loud enough for Jared to hear. "Kicking in the door might be the only option, unless you just unscrew the hinges, its less messy." He was rambling slightly. "In any case, you're gunna need a new door." He finished, leaning against the door jam as he thought. He always felt confident and at ease around Jared, one of the only people he could true ramble at. In some other company he could be regarded as very quiet, which in actual fact he wasn't. He talked to his stallion, Calliq, a lot since the horse liked to be talked to, and anything that calmed the big chestnut down was good enough. He'd only come across the stallion a few months ago, and his attitude wasn't really fading. He was still horrible in the stable, but Jared was helping him with the big horse. Jared was more or less Jamie's father figure, since he'd never had a biological one and his adopted one had sent him off to boarding school in Ireland, so Jared was the only one he had.
"How's the paperwork?" He asked lightly. "If you ever need a hand, I don't mind, I get some free time and I've already rewired the radio." He finished with a grin, he liked mechanics a lot. He liked to rewire things, like radios or lights. It was what he did in his free time, just took electronic things apart and then put them back together, sometimes in different ways. Usually they stopped working, but he could always try and put it back again, so all was easily righted, even if he did tend to burn his fingers in the process.

Jared sighed and shook his head. If the kids kept it up, he was going to punish them all for one or two people's actions unless they came forward. He definitely didn't see that happening any time soon. "Great, just one more expense that's just barely affordable." He remarked as he finished off the paperwork and put it in his out box. Margret would come in later to get it and give him whatever mail came in for the day.
He looked back up at Jamie in thought. He shrugged lightly. "It's paper work. Nothing much to it. I just don't like doing it." He said as he stood. He'd ask Margret to get the local carpenter on the phone. He had to have the doors around Willow Brooke custom built because they were bigger sizes than the standard doors. "Jamie... the point of the free time is to sit back and relax or go on rides. Not add more work to your day." He said gently giving a him a grin. "The only person that works overtime here, is me." He said looking at Jamie with a teasing grin. Yes, the boy definitely made him think of himself.

Leaning against the door jam with the door closed, the office was a lot warmed than outdoors. He absentmindedly brought up his hand to massage the sore muscles in his shoulder. An old working injury that played up from time to time. It was over a year ago now, just before Jared had offered him a job, but it still tended to bother him after a hard day. It had been a long couple of days, right at the beginning when all the students were coming back and the horses were jittery. Especially the younger mares with their foals. A few of the new foals as well were being complete arses in their own way. He couldn't blame them, but no-one had enough time to do what they really needed, to have someone sitting with them all day to get them used to people. Especially Cobalt. With some of the newer foals having just arrived, he was getting more and more protective of his little herd. You really had to watch his back hooves when trying to examine some of the other foals, otherwise it was a hoof in the stomach for you.
Jamie knew they were short on money. "You know I've offered to ask Madisyn for cash." His younger sister was only fourteen, but her own adopted parents, Josie and Liam Calighan were rich enough as it was. Maddie lived a very comfortable life. They also had enough money of their own to probably buy out Willow Brooke, and he didn't have much of a problem with asking them for money, but he doubted whether Jared would accept it. Josie and Liam had offered to adopt Jamie themselves, but he'd just been too old. He was still welcome at the Calighans, but it didn't quite feel like home, not that Willow Brooke did. "No-one likes doing paperwork, that's the definition of paperwork." He replied lightly.
"I get bored on my free time, since Calliq's lame." He shrugged with one shoulder, still being slightly careful with the one he'd dislocated some time the year before. "You can't always be the one working, it's not exactly fair." He retorted. In Jamie's opinion he didn't get enough work. It was only enough work if you were able to fall asleep at the end of the day without a second thought or if an old injury started hurting. He'd built up a tolerance to his shoulder, so he could easily go muck out a few horses before he needed to throw back the pain meds.

Jared looked up to Jamie frowning. Wouldn't be the first time that he had offered to ask his sister for money. He had a mind to, but he didn't like take loans from people. It ended up biting you in the ass later on in your life. He just shook his head softly. "I'd wrather not." He said softly looking down at the almost finished paper work. "Jamie..." He looked back up at the boy, "Why didn't you bring Madiysn with you? You are her brother, and you're eighteen, which means you could be her legal guardian." He said gently. He'd always wondered that. He could understand a few reasons why, but there was still that nagging curiosity. She seemed like a nice girl from what little he had seen of her.
He smirked gently. "Then go to town and enjoy yourself. You can at least get into Hot Ice and dance and buy a good virgin drink." He started to scribble out the measurements he would need for the door. Once he got everything taken care of he would lock his office and go spend a little time with Berry. "How is Calliq doing about that anyways?" He asked scribbeling a few notes down then looked up at Jamie as he set his glasses down on the desk.

He changed his eyeline to stare across at the wall. He'd suspected as much, he'd probably do the same in Jared's place. It wasn't pride, it was just that a lot of people prefered to be self preficient. He did, he knew. But, when it came to other people he didn't mind asking around, it was an odd click in his personality. He'd ask for someone else, but not for himself. Why didn't he bring Maddie with him...easy answer. "She's happy with Liam and Josie, I wouldn't want to break them up." He replied quietly. He wanted to have Maddie up with him, a big brother complex to keep her safe and all that. He knew Liam and Josie did keep her safer, safer than he probably could, but she was his only biological, and known, family. It counted for a lot. She was a long plane ride away, so it would take him a white to get to her if...well, he tended to try not to think of anything.
He glanced out of a window, it was still tipping it down. He moved across the thresh hold and towards the radiator mounted on the wall. His back against it he slid down into a sitting position on the floor, legs stretched out in front of him. He wanted to dry a bit if he was going back out into that. Who knows, it might stop. Jamie rolled his eyes. Jared knew as well as he did that partying didn't really go with Jamie well. He was used to working as hard as possible until he fell asleep in a stable somewhere. He grinned back. "I would, got no car." He replied innocently. He did own a car, a rather beat up 1986 Corvette, but it had an engine about as reliable as giving a drug addict a syringe and asking them to not use it.
He stood up, deciding it was better to be wet if he was going back outside than getting dry and then getting wet again. That would just be silly. "Calliq, usual self. Managed to get his hoof caught in the fence, so he's lame, will be for a week or so. I think his manners are getting worse, he tried to take a chunk out of my arm yesterday." He finished conversationally. "What about Berry? Doing well?"
