Carole walked in Jared's office. He wasn't there. She sat behind the desk and put her feet up on the desk. She would just have to wait for him. She and Jared were secretly dating. She really couldn't see why they had to keep it a secret. Collegues dated all the time. She sighed slightly.
She really did know why they had to keep it secret. Really she shouldn't be dating her boss. And there was the fact that he had lost his family. She looked up at all the pictures on the walls. I guess it isn't really appropriate. She thought, shaking her head slightly. She didn't really care. She liked Jared too much.

Jared wandered through the stables before he came in and found Carole in his office. He smiled boyishly and closed the door, locking it behind him before he walked over, setting the papers down on the desk. He moved behind her and leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her cheek, playfully nibbling at it. So far him and Carole were able to keep it all under wraps what they did. Usually, he had her over to the cabin when Markus was off doing whatever the young man enjoyed doing. He didn't really want his children to know for the very reason that his youngest had always held her mother so close to her after his wife's death. She'd been mad with him for a while when he tried a short stint of dating.
That's why he kept Carole a secret for now, maybe in another year or so he could tell his kids. He had no doubt Markus would approve. His son had tried during Jared's dating stint to set him up with a few people he knew. A friend's divorced mom and two of his teachers. After the step-mom he'd said no more set ups. He studied Carole for a moment as he tipped his chair she was sitting in back a little and looked over her. "Do you need something?" He asked curiously as he tilted his head curiously.

Carole smiled back at Jared. "Nothing, just a little bored." She smiled impishly up at him. She took her feet off the desk and went over to him. She sat on his lap and kissed his cheek. "You know you really should tell everyone about us. Especially your kids. They should know." She knew that his kids would probably freak out. Especially the younger ones. The oldest had tried to set him up so many times it was almost a joke.
This secrecy was really starting to annoy her. Only meeting him when noone was around. Never telling anyone what was going on. It was really wearing on her. She sighed. She knew Jared wasn't going to be willing to tell anyone anytime soon. That was going to be very annoying. Secrecy always annoyed her. She snuggled into his lap and wrapped her arms around him. "You know all this secrecy annoys me. Why can't we tell anyone?" She sighed dramatically and smiled.

He returned the impish grin with his own, licking his lips at the prospects of what her boredom could bring him. He wrapped his arms around her waist and held her close studying her curiously. He sighed and looked at a picture of the two, Markus his oldest and Trudy, the baby. This wasn't the first time they'd had this discussion with Carole, and he knew eventually they would grow old of this discussion. He knew he needed to, but he was worried about how Trudy would react to the news.
He looked back to Carole and softly tucked some of her lovely red hair behind an ear. "I know you don't, but... I worry about how Trudy will react. Markus has no problem. He would be glad to hear the news, but Trudy... " He said looking at Carole thoughtfully. He cupped her face as he studied her thoughtfully. "I promise, in all due time, we'll tell them." He said softly as he looked to a picture of his late wife then back to the picture of Markus and Trudy. He knew that Trudy had never really wanted him to date because she was afraid he would replace Amelia. Trudy just never seemed to grasp that no matter what, he would never forget Amelia, and there was absolutely no one who could replace her.

Carole sighed again and said, "I'm sure Trudy will take it fine. She already likes me. And its not like I'm trying to replace her mother. I'd never be able to do that." She knew Trudy didn't want her father to date. Markus would be happy though. He knew his father needed company. But then she had an idea.
"We just have to tell her the right way. Maybe I could talk to her." She said. A little girl time. That was the key. She'd just have to pick the perfect words. She pursed her lips thoughtfully. What could she say that would make the girl not freak out? Or even if Trudy did freak out, Carole could calm her down, explain things. That way she couldn't take it out on her father and Jared wouldn't worry as much. Then she pictured the scene; calmly explaining to Trudy about her and Jared, telling her that there was no way way she could replace Trudy's mother. It was perfect. A serene smile spread across Carole's face.
She looked Jared in the face and said, "I know exactly what to do. I'm sure she won't freak out or be very mad." She kissed him, "Everything is going to work out just fine." She knew she spoke the truth. No more secrecy, no more sneaking. She smiled brightly.
